Join the Krannert Art Museum for an back to back DJ performance lecture by multidisciplinary artist Shenece Oretha and exhibiting artist Blair Ebony Smith (lovenloops), presented as part of the Black on Black on Black on Black exhibition.
Shenece Oretha (b. Montserrat) is a London based multidisciplinary artist sounding out the mobilizing potential of sound and listening in art.
Through multi-vocal and multichannel installations, sculpture, print, workshops and text Shenece Oretha amplifies and celebrates listening and sound as an embodied and collective practice. Her works are attentive to not just the music, but the musicality of Black oral and aural traditions, ceremonies and literature together with the emotional, physical and communal resonance they generate.
Her solo shows include Ah So It Go, Ah No So It Go, Go So!, Cubitt Gallery, London(2022), Called to Respond, Cell Project Space, London, (2020), TESTING GROUNDS, Cafe OTO Project Space, London, (2019). Shenece was recently commissioned to make a new work in response to the sound archive at the British Library as part of the CCA Show – Notes on Play (2021).
