Carlyle Johnson

Carlyle Johnson is a music educator and clarinetist, born and raised in Quincy, IL. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Illinois. He taught instrumental music in Champaign schools from 1971-1994. He performed for many years with Dan Perrino’s Medicare 7, 8, or 9 and with his own group, The New Orleans Jazz Machine. In addition to his work as a performer of Dixieland jazz, Mr. Johnson has also played with the symphony orchestras in Champaign, Danville, and Springfield, Illinois. In 2023, he received a Lifetime ACE Award from 40 North “for countless years dedicated to teaching music and entertaining audiences all over Champaign-Urbana and beyond.”
