SUMMARY:Black on Black on Black on Black
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition will feature Black faculty in the School of Art & Design through the lens of the Black Quantum Future as proposed by Philadelphia-based activists and theorists Rasheeda Phillips and Camae Ayewa. The collaborative exhibition will explore Black identity\, collectivity\, positionality\, healing\, innovation\, and education as explored via a multi-leveled/multi-dimensional immersive\, critical\, and openly reflective space. \nThis re-visioning of the Faculty Exhibition recognizes the legacy of Black knowledge and production in ways that supports the ongoing efforts by the School of Art & Design\, Krannert Art Museum\, College of Fine and Applied Arts\, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign towards addressing and celebrating our unique diversity\, equity\, and inclusion. \nA lecture series\, community conversations\, sound installation\, and a catalogue is planned in conjunction with the exhibition. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCo-curated by Patrick Earl Hammie\, Stacey Robinson\, Blair Ebony Smith\, and Nekita Thomas \nCosponsored by Bruce Nesbitt African American Cultural Center and the College of Fine and Applied Arts. Opening events produced in partnership with Pygmalion Festival. \nSupported by the Frances P. Rohlen Visiting Artists Fund/College of Fine & Applied Arts\, School of Art & Design\, and the James and Beth Armsey Fund.

SUMMARY:Dr. Kelli Morgan Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Join the Krannert Art Museum for a talk by Dr. Kelli Morgan\, Professor of the Practice and the inaugural Director of Curatorial Studies at Tufts University\, presented as part of the Black on Black on Black on Black exhibition. \nAbout the artist\nDr. Kelli Morgan is a Professor of the Practice and the inaugural Director of Curatorial Studies at Tufts University. A curator\, educator\, and social justice activist who specializes in American art and visual culture\, her scholarly commitment to the investigation of anti-blackness within those fields has demonstrated how traditional art history and museum practice work specifically to uphold white supremacy. \nBesides her own curatorial experience\, Dr. Morgan mentors emerging curators and regularly trains staff at various museums to foster anti-racist approaches in collection building\, exhibitions\, community engagement\, and fundraising. \nOver the past year\, Dr. Morgan has become a leading and influential voice in bolstering anti-racist work in art museums. She has held curatorial positions at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields\, the Birmingham Museum of Art\, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and teaching positions at Wayne State University\, the University of Michigan\, and the Tyler School of Art at Temple University \nDr. Morgan earned her PhD in Afro-American studies and a graduate certificate in public history–museum studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2017.
